"The Prisoner"

SYNOPSIS: In Warsaw in 1943, a refugee who survived the death camps explains how: every day of her
imprisonment she fantasized that she ruled the world and could punish those who had participated in the
atrocities of the war. Then she encounters a Nazi soldier who begs her for sanctuary and puts her in the
very position that she has so long desired.

COMMENTARY: This story explores both humanity's indomitable spirit and the futility of revenge. In
the former, a woman kept her sanity in the concentration camp through the powers of her imagination. In
the latter, she has an opportunity to exact revenge, but finds that it is not what she imagined . . .
